My yucky Macaroni & Cheese

It's Thursday… you already know what it is, we are going to cook some food.
Today we made macaroni and cheese. This was the most difficult dish we have made, it sounds simple but the amount of dishes we had to clean after the meal, was atrocious!

We arrived to Pakuranga and started cooking.  Some of the ingredients we used, I had never heard of e.g. powdered mustard. We had to use powdered ingredients to make the cheese sauce, that  we used to drizzle on top of the cooked pasta. I was surprised to see the powder change its state to become a thick liquid.

Next we made the pasta. This process  was easy really.  We had to boil the water after adding a pinch of salt and then we added the macaroni.  When the pasta is ready, drain the water (and pasta) through a sieve over the sink.  I had a quick taste ( I couldn’t help myself) and I was really surprised because the pasta tasted like a mouthwatering dish, the only problem was …. my cheese sauce.

Prior to making the macaroni, I prepared the cheese sauce.
Cheese was added to the powdered cheese mixture with ¾ of a cup of milk.  This was then heated and stirred, until mixture thickened.

I then splashed some thick cheese sauce all of my pasta, I can describe that moment as satisfying. I had a partner he didn't help with the pasta because he was making coleslaw, to be very honest the coleslaw tasted way much better than my macaroni and cheese.

On reflection, I think I added too much salt into the sauce and I suspect I also added too much mustard!  I will  most certainly make sure I don’t do that again - It is very important to listen to instructions!

  3. In another bowl sift in the flour salt and sugar .
  4. Next pour in the 4 teaspoons of oil into the sift ingredients and mix.

  7. Knead the dough once it has transformed.
  8. Shape it
  9. After, place it on a tray and place them carefully into the warming drawer to rise.
  10. Wait 20 mins then put them into the oven for 15 mins.

Counting in chinese

We are learning to recognise the Chinese number system.

Today Siu (Left) and I learnt the Chinese Number system 1-10.

TIME TO COOK!

Image result for Mince BeefIt is another Thursday, Technicraft day.

Today room 8 had to leave the school and go to another school which was way bigger. Today my class was in cooking class. We had to make something including mince beef. Some people were making nachos, some were making tacos and like my partner and I, meat patties. After making what the people are making the next thing to make was easier, it was a salad, any type of salad. The table that was connected to my partner and I were making the same salad we were, Coleslaw. The Coleslaw looked and tasted different then the KFC ones but it was still yum. Next is time to make a new design brief for the next week. The new design brief is about making bread, different types. My design brief was about making bread rolls, I had to write the recipe for the bread rolls, make a time plan and draw what would be needed for the making of the ultimate bread roll. It was then 11:55. Time to pack up, this time we didn't stack the stools because Miss had another class after us. Pack up was done everything was clean we had to line up to leave. Later on at 12:00 we left to hop on the bus and head back to our wonderful school.

Low tide (Poem)

Low Tide

I walk beside you
across mudflats in
my blue gumboots,
over crackling oyster
shells, green ribbed pipis, the traces of wading birds.
When the tide is out, what lies exposed:
river threads of mud, old round stones,
tiny mussels yet to grow:
my soul prints left
on the ocean’s bones.
